F.A.Q
What should I wear?

There is no dress code; wear whatever you feel comfortable with.
However, street shoes are not allowed in our studio. You can bring an extra pair of shoes, or just wear your socks.

When can I start?

We don’t have a fixed start date for our regular classes; you can join at any time.
For Improvers 2, we recommend joining from the 1st Tuesday of the month to start the routine, but you can still catch up if you join later!

Do I need to come with a partner?

No! You will often change partners during class so every one of our students can practice, even if we don’t have a perfect balance between leaders and followers.
In our opinion, this is the only way to properly learn a partner dance, and a great way to meet new people.

Do I need to register?

No! All our regular classes are drop-in; just come and dance!
For special classes, if there is a registration, the details will be shared.

What is my Salsa level?

We’re offering 4 levels of Cuban salsa classes. If you are unsure which one is the best for you, here are some explanations.
Once your skills allow it, we highly encourage you to take on two levels simultaneously: solid basics make confident dancers!
We linked some example videos in the Headlines for you. Check them out!

We also have all our information on our german page: This way

You’ve never danced Cuban salsa before or attended only a few classes, and need to refresh your basic step? This will be the perfect class for you. You will learn our basic step, “Guapea”.
This level is repeated every week and is always for free; you can do it as often as you need!

You feel comfortable with “Guapea”?
Then join Beginners 2, where you will further build on your basics by learning “Dile que No” and “Dame”. This class is designed to be taken directly after Absolute Beginners, even if it’s your first time in our classes.

You are comfortable with “Guapea” and “Dile que no” and are ready to move forward? Or you have danced salsa before but don’t remember the difference between “Enchufala doble” and “Enchufala ocho”? Then start with the Improvers 1 level. You will learn different moves that will get you ready for the next salsa party. You can start this level any week. This content repeats itself every 6 weeks.

IMPROVERS 2
Start every month

Every month, we’ll work on a new combination that includes all the Wednesday moves plus one new move per month and several variations of it. In this way, you can repeat what you learn, remember the moves more easily, and work on transitions, music, and body movements.
Since there will be a repetition of the previous content in each class, you can still join even if you missed a session!

One Heart – One Community

SHARING PASSIONS

Our classes are designed in a way that allows you to join us anytime. There is no fixed starting date that you could miss. Never danced before? Perfect! We take you through the very basics and give you the possibility to progress at your own speed. Our classes are open to anyone: this is an open space for all people of different heritages, cultures, colours, genders, sexual orientations, religion, ages …

BUILDING COMMUNITIES

We are all volunteers. The teachers, organisers, helpers, designers and even filmmakers who participate and help out – we’re all doing this without asking for money. All profit is given to Welthungerhilfe who fights for equal access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in over 40 countries worldwide. Funds raised by us support projects in Malawi. CHANGING LIVES

Do you like our project? Do you have ideas how to improve it? Would you like to be part of it? Would you like to support us in whatever way (we’re always looking for sponsors and rooms)? Do you have a particular skill that you would like to share 4Water? It could be anything from acting, cooking, yoga … The possibilities are endless! Anyways, just contact us 🙂

Our thoughts on dance

This one is easy. It all comes down to one motivation: FUN! Whether fun means to you spending time with nice people, interpreting a song by moving your body to it, pulling off wicked moves, progressing in your dance, impressing others, impressing yourself, … this list is endless. Important is, that you’re having fun while dancing. This is our basic philosophy which we base all our teaching on. We don’t tell you to wear heels for salsa dancing and we don’t tell you not to wear them. Furthermore, we don’t tell you to use one certain version of “dance styling”, we just show you a version that you may adapt, or not. We think there should be no judgement in dance because as long as the dancers are having fun, they’re doing it right – wether they do it in a fancy suit or in sweatpants doesn’t matter.
